Our effective admissions procedure allows parents to make the decision about their child’s education with complete confidence.
Children usually join our Nursery during the autumn term after their 3rd birthday. Then they move into one of two Reception classes where there are a few extra places for new children.
Provided that there is a space available, a child may join St Olave's into any appropriate year group. This may be at the start of a term or part-way through a term.
We hold two Open Mornings where prospective parents may visit the school and meet the teachers. Guided tours by our older pupils are always popular as parents learn about the school from the child’s perspective. These open days are an excellent opportunity for parents to experience at first-hand the friendly, caring and supportive environment that defines St Olave’s.
Visiting the school
Before registering their child parents are asked to book a meeting with the Head Teacher to visit the school during the school day. Parents also observe each classroom in action. They often remark on the enthusiasm of the children’s faces and the buzz of activity throughout the school. To book a visit please contact the school office on 0208 294 8930.
Registration and assessment
Once a child has been registered they are invited to spend some time with their respective class to assess how they respond to their peers, teacher and their surroundings. Following this assessment an offer of a place is usually made. If they accept the place, parents sign a contract and pay a deposit.
Nursery and Reception children are invited to our Teddy Bears’ Picnic in the summer term preceding their September start date. This is where the children and their teddy meet their teachers and classmates in a fun, relaxed environment. At the same time a welcome meeting for parents provides all the information needed for starting at St Olave's.
