Year 3 visit Dover Museum

This week Year 3 visited Dover Museum for a Bronze Age workshop.

Dover Museum is home to remains of a large wooden prehistoric boat thought to be some 3,600 years old. The children learned about the importance of such a boat in the Bronze Age, how it was made, discovered and preserved, and how it was used to cross the Channel to trade goods.

Using clay the children made their own replicas of the boat as well as typical items of trade which included, spelt, cattle, pots and blankets. We are looking forward to painting these when we return from the half term.

In the afternoon the children were able to use the theatre at the museum for a drama workshop. In groups, they learned how people hunted, gathered and cave-dwelled. They very much enjoyed re-enacting these scenes.
