In the Upper School we aim to create a vibrant learning environment in which all children are allowed to develop and flourish.

We provide outstanding opportunities throughout the Upper School in all pursuits: academic, creative, physical, and social.

As the children progress through the school they become the role models for the younger children. In Year 6 the children are awarded extra responsibilities that include assisting with, and perhaps leading clubs and activities in other sections of the school, being class monitors, subject monitors, UNICEF Rights Respecting Ambassadors and Prefects.

By the time they are ready to leave for senior school, pupils have acquired a robust ‘don’t give up’ attitude and an assured self-confidence which contains no hint of arrogance.

In many subjects the children begin to more formally prepare academically for their secondary school entrance exams, which take place in the autumn and spring terms of Year 6. A programme of pastoral and academic support helps the children to progress through this challenging and exciting period. In Years 4, 5 and 6 of the Upper School the children experience exciting and educational residential trips to various locations in England and France. The children finish their time at St Olave's Prep fully equipped for a happy transition to the next stage of their educational journey. This is celebrated by a formal presentation evening at the Rose Bruford Theatre in Sidcup, including a full Upper School performance of a well known musical followed by personalised citations from their class teachers. This is always a night to remember.
