At St Olave’s, pupils in our Upper School classes have the opportunity to take part in weekly Speech and Drama sessions with our specialist teacher, Mrs O’Mahony. These extra-curricular lessons take place during the school day, making them easily accessible for pupils while enriching their wider school experience.

Through Speech and Drama, pupils develop confidence, self-expression and communication skills in a supportive and encouraging environment. Sessions help children to strengthen their speaking voice, improve clarity and projection, develop performance skills and learn how to present themselves with poise and assurance. These are valuable skills which support not only performance, but also classroom learning, public speaking and everyday communication.

Children work towards annual LAMDA examinations, giving them the opportunity to achieve recognised qualifications and celebrate their progress. In addition, pupils are encouraged to take part in a range of competitions throughout the year, allowing them to perform to a wider audience, build resilience and take pride in their achievements.

Speech and Drama is a much-loved part of life at St Olave’s, helping our pupils grow in confidence, creativity and independence.
